Sociology doctoral students, with the support of the Department of Sociology and OPHI, University of Oxford, announces a two-day conference on South Asia in Transition 2011 to be held on November 25 – 26 2011.

The South Asian subcontinent has experienced profound social, political, economic and cultural transformations in the past two decades. This conference seeks to explore and capture these changes through a wide range of analytical perspectives. For the purposes of this conference South Asia is taken to encompass India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Maldives.

South Asia as a whole is increasingly gaining attention in contemporary social science research and this conference will create an opportunity for debate and discussion on contemporary research as well as initiating new collaborative research on South Asia. We hope that the proposed conference can be a major step in establishing relationships among early career researchers working on South Asia.
